CX500TC Turbo
1982

498cc, V2-cylinder, push-rod operated 8-valve engine producing 77bhp.

Only produced for one year, the CX500 Turbo, released in 1982, was Honda's first production Turbo motorcycle and featured a programmed fuel-injection system. The CX500 Turbo powerplant was based on Honda's standard liquid-cooled V-twin CX500 model with four pushrod-operated overhead valves per cylinder. The turbocharger, at peak boost, nearly doubled the power output of the engine. The suspension, brakes, frame and fairing all differ significantly from the earlier CX500 and the Pro-Link rear suspension and TRAC (Torque Reactive Anti-dive Control) was as featured on the CX500E and CX650E EuroSport models.

CX650T Turbo
1983

673cc V2-cylinder, push-rod 8-valve engine producing 97bhp.

For 1983 the engine capacity of the CX500 Turbo was increased to 673cc. The compression ratio was also increased and the maximum boost pressure was lowered thus making for a smoother transition from off-boost to on-boost. The fuel-injection control system was substantially revised for the CX650T as was the pro-link rear suspension.

The new CX650 Turbo also featured cosmetic changes and in a cost-cutting exercise the fairing was made from ABS plastic rather than GRP as on the CX500TC.

Price at introduction:
CX500TC-C Turbo - £3,350.00 (UK, 1982)
CX650T-D Turbo - £3,450.00 (UK, 1983)

High price, low sales...
Although a technical masterpiece for the time, sales of both Turbo models were low in all markets due to a high retail price and high insurance costs!
